The company wants to clean up a mine, closed 60 years ago

In the U.S., Titan America wants to reopen Kaolin mines in Augusta county, closed 60 years ago, reports NBC 29.

The company also proposed truck route that would extend Pine Chapel Lane so Titan could take exposed chalk to Roanoke Cement Operations in Troutville.

The company would operate 12 hours a day, six days a week, which worries the locals, who consider this to be a threat to their peaceful neighborhood. ÔÇ£That means this community would have no rest, no peace, except on Sundays,ÔÇØ said Nancy Sorrells, former Augusta County supervisor. She added that ÔÇ£To bring 200 to 900 truck trips, which is big dump truck loads, of the extracted chalk out of here per quarter.ÔÇØ
