In the U.S. Concord City Council has approved a rezoning request for 66.875 acres, allowing Vulcan to expand their operations, reports Independent Tribune. Vulcan Materials Company officials requested the property be designated Heavy Industrial (I-2) for the purpose of expanding its existing quarry and dirt storage. The property was annexed into the Concord city limits at the council's meeting in March and the rezoning affected two parcels consisting of 66.875 acres. Vulcan Materials Company is the largest producer of construction aggregates in the country, primarily crushed stone, sand and gravel, and a major producer of aggregates-based construction materials, including asphalt and ready-mixed concrete.
