Fiji Industries Limited (FIL) cement operations have undergone changes to become a cleaner operation. The company is changing its clinker operations to obtain an ISO 14001 certification by end of 2008. In effect, FIL ended its local clinker production to reduce emissions and eliminate dredging of coral, with clinker now being imported. Controlling dust emissions during clinker unloading at the Suva port remains the key challenge.  FIL is the only local producer and has been in business since 1960, all according to the Fiji Daily Post.
