Specialization seen to address country's ports problems.[$]

{reg}[PAID={"id":"12,13,14","title":"The content you tried to access is only available to paid subscribers.","link":"1"}] The Jeddah Ports Authority has called on ports in the country to become more specialized to increase their competitiveness reports Mubasher.

The Port Authority says ports in the country should develop their own bulk, refrigerated, container, roro terminals among others to avoid competing with each other. Specialization it adds would allow ports to increase productivity and efficiency. Most port operators have complained over low margins brought about by overlaps in the port's service offerings.

To achieve the goal of increased specialization the country's ports need to have increased private sector funding to build new infrastructure. It also needs to invest in training up a skilled workforce to operate the specialized port equipment. [/reg}
