Karachi Ports' robust activity: cargo handling and ship movements

Karachi Port trust and Port Qasim experience busy 48 hours

{reg}Karachi Port Trust demonstrated vigorous operational activity, handling a total of 215,591 tons of cargo over the last 48 hours. The cargo breakdown included 136,853 tons of imports and 78,738 tons of exports until 0700 hours. Containerized cargo played a significant role in both imports and exports, showcasing the resilience of Karachi's maritime trade.

In specific terms, the imported cargo consisted of 68,627 tons of containerized cargo, 2,259 tons of bulk cargo, 1,327 tons of chickpeas, 465 tons of lentils, 29,652 tons of wheat, and 34,523 tons of oil and liquid cargo. On the export front, 65,786 tons of containerized cargo, 99 tons of bulk cargo, 5,353 tons of rice, and 7,500 tons of oil and liquid cargo contributed to the overall export volume.

Monday saw the handling of 7,162 containers, with 3,343 containers for import and 3,819 containers for export. Ship movements were substantial, with nine ships berthing at Karachi Port Trust, including notable names like Chemroad Queen and Yantian Express.

Simultaneously, at Port Qasim, seven ships were engaged, with a cargo volume of 60,401 tonnes handled in the last 24 hours. The varied cargo included imports and exports, highlighting the port's diverse trade portfolio. Looking ahead, additional ship movements are anticipated, with ships scheduled for loading and offloading cement, containers, LNG, chemicals, and coal.
