The port's commissioners voted 7-0 to back a resolution drafted by port staff, affirming past planning by the port district to expand maritime operations at the 96-acre site in downtown San Diego. This follows a proposal calling for the waterfront land to be developed as a sports and entertainment complex, and for marine terminal operations to be shifted elsewhere on San Diego Bay. The port disagreed saying that the Port of San Diego is the fourth largest of 11 deep-water ports in California, and one of only two natural harbors in the state. Officials said the port's strategic business plan is aligned with recently announced federal initiatives aimed at doubling U.S. exports by 2015. The 10th Avenue terminal, located off Harbor Drive, is home to shipping and storage facilities of companies including Dole Fresh Fruit Co., San Diego Refrigerated Services Inc. and Cemex Construction Materials Pacific LLC, under lease agreements with the port district. {/reg] Sign in Don't have any account?
