Pakistan's government is in the process of considering shifting some cement exports from the Karachi port to the Gwadar port. The move comes after the Karachi port has seen widespread congestion.

Lafarge announced the sale of its cement and concrete assets in Italy to Italy's Sacci group on November 4. The transaction is valued at 290 million euros and is a part of a broader Lafarge divestment program underway.

In a move to secure clinker demand for its Spanish and Portuguese operations, Portugal-based Cimpor today announced that it has acquired Cemex' assets on the Spanish Canary Islands. The value of the transaction is 162 million euros, plus a separate payment for working capital.

The Maldives' State Trading Corporation assured that there is no shortage of cement on the Maldive market. "We currently have ample stock to last up to the end of December 2008," said STC Director Mr. Ranjit Singh Soomarooah.
