Export prices for bulk ordinary grade clinker increased by a similar rate, almost five percent MoM. ÔÇ£Portland bulk cement and clinker trade prices in the Mediterranean Basin have slightly recovered from the general contraction faced during 2016ÔÇØ said Raluca Cercel, Consulting Analyst with the CW Group's European team. The June update also includes relevant news about the positive performance of Turkish cement sector and the 25+ percent YoY increase in cement exports in Cyprus. However, Cyprian clinker exports contracted by around 64 percent YoY in April. Moreover, African countries are seen as an opportunity for clinker exports. ÔÇ£Even though some markets are becoming less dependent on the cement imports, exporters believe that there will always be space in the market for the imports due to lower pricingÔÇØ, added Raluca Cercel. CW Research's leading role in the global cement and clinker sector forms the underpinning for the monthly price assessment. Price points are based on the analyst team's on-going discussions with cement traders, producers, exporters and other stakeholders in the business and reflect a synthesis of actual traded cargos.
