Admired not only for his tenacity but most of all for the great human being he was, his legacy will live on. Lorenzo H. Zambrano, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of CEMEX, passed away May 12 in the city of Madrid, Spain. Early start CEMEX was born in 1906 when Cementos Hidalgo started operations near Monterrey in northern Mexico. In 1920 Lorenzo Zambrano, grandfather of Lorenzo H. Zambrano, founded Cementos Portland Monterrey also in Monterrey and eleven years later, in 1931, he was the mastermind behind the merger of the two companies, creating Cementos Mexicanos, known today as Cemex.
