400 delegates expected for WCA Shanghai conference

Visit to Conch CCU pilot a key attraction

The World Cement Association will hold its annual conference in Shanghai on 9-11 September this year.

This is the first time the conference has been held in China and a record number of high level delegates from China and around the world are expected to attend. As Song Zhiping, Chairman of the world's largest cement company and WCA President stated in an interview with CemWeek recently, ÔÇ£the cement industry in the world is currently not sharing enough new technologiesÔÇØ to meet the challenge of climate change.

The theme of the conference ÔÇ£Innovation for a sustainable industryÔÇØ highlights the most critical challenge facing the cement industry. As more and more people demand action to achieve the Paris climate targets, the cement industry will face increasingly tough expectations from regulators, investors and society at large. At WCA Shanghai ÔÇÿ19, speakers from around the world will share their experience on diverse topics including: energy efficiency, use of alternative fuels, harnessing AI to reduce emissions, and sustainable quarry management.

Emphasizing WCA's focus on practical help for its members, this conference includes a field trip to see some new technology in action. In keeping with the sustainability theme, participants are invited to visit Anhui Conch's pilot carbon capture and purification plant, which has been operating since last year. This is a ground breaking project for the cement industry worldwide as carbon capture is an essential part of the industry's decarbonization roadmap.
