100 employees let go at US Cemex facility.

{reg} Cemex hopes that the layoffs are only temporary and the action comes after Cemex had warned about it earlier this year. Union officials said that only 15 workers will remain to man the operations.

Cemex is said to plan to ship cement in by rail from Louisville, Ky., and truck it in from Fairborn, Ohio, instead of making it at the plant. The Wampum plant will only be used as a distribution center in the meanwhile, New Castle News reported.

David Argiro of Wampum, president of Local D-173 of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Union, said that the remaining workers ÔÇ£no longer will be making cement. They say it's cheaper to bring it in than we can actually make it there.ÔÇØ
