Port authorities green light Thatta plant construction project.[$]

{reg}[PAID={"id":"1,2,3,4,5","title":"The content you tried to access is only available to paid subscribers.","link":"1"}] Sri Lanka has approved the construction of a $15.6 million cement plant by Pakistans Thatta cement on an industrial zone next to Hambantota port reports Lanka Business Online.

The approval by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority came following a meeting by the cabinet of ministers. The port did not disclose additional details on the project.  The industrial zone had already attracted a chemical plant from Singapores Peak Energy Ltd which will invest $434.5 million to build a PET resin plant and a sugar refinery by Sri Renuka Sugar of India which will invest $220 million. The port also has there several smaller projects in the pipeline amounting to around $100 million. Work on the first factory will start construction in December and they are expected to be operational in the next 6 to 18 months.

Thatta Cement Company Limited manufactures and markets cement products. The company offers sulfate resistant cement, ordinary Portland cement, Portland blast furnace slag cement, and ground granulated blast furnace cement. It also provides clinker.{/reg
