The United States Department of Commerce will announce its final decision regarding the 20.33 per cent tariff on imports from Port Hawkesbury Paper, reports The Chronicle Herald. The decision will affect the competitiveness of the products of the Point Tupper mill in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Point Tupper mill used to manufacture super glossy paper, which is used for calenders and newsprint. The company had a unit in Maine, which was shut down in 2012 due to increased competition and high maintenance costs.

In July, Point Tupper mill faced allegations of selling its products at unfairly subsidized prices and levied 20.33 percent tariff on products sent to America. The Department of Commerce has analyzed each component of the allegation and would announce its decision in this week.
