Saudi Arabia's largest cement manufacturer - Saudi Cement Company - reported that third quarter profits were down 9,2%. The company attributed the decline to a fall off in export revenues and increase in production costs.

Holcim's Brazilian unit has indefinitely delayed R$1,5 billion ($650 million) of investments due to the global financial crisis. As a result, two planned expansion projects have been suspended.

Texas, USA, based Eagle Materials reported revenues and net earnings of $178,9 million and $15,6 million, respectively, for the quarter ended September 30, 2008. Revenues decreased 15% from the prior year second quarter and net earnings decreased 55% from the same period. Cement and concrete division revenue declined 15% to $85,7 million.

Mr. Francisco Asensio, Innovation Director at Cemex in Spain, is not ruling out the "restructuring" of Cemex' Spanish operations. Cemex Spain is expected to see a 30% decline in cement shipments this year, which the company "logically will need to respond to".
