In July, the prices of high sulfur petcoke rose by almost 3 percent. Mid sulfur petcoke increased by nearly 6 percent for both West and East coasts, according to the India Petcoke CFR price assessment update for the month of July, by CW Research.

The average cost of burning high sulfur petcoke on per unit of calorific value basis is at a 16 percent discount as compared to the USD 1.5 per ton of Richard Bays coal for West Coast in July. In comparison, the average cost of burning high sulfur petcoke was at a discount of 10 percent in June.

Cement companies accounted for just below 80 percent of the total petcoke volume imported by Indian firms in June. In the previous month, petcoke imports by cement companies accounted for more than 80 percent.
